About Us
The Berrys Carehome provides residential care in Basildon for older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities and autism. We also take planned respite stays.
Day to day our work is practical. Helping people wash and dress, seeing that medicines are taken properly, cooking meals people actually want to eat, and making sure nobody spends the day waiting for somebody to speak to them. Residents decide how their own days run, and where somebody communicates differently or needs the day to be predictable, we work to that rather than to a general routine.
We would rather be straightforward about our inspection position than have families discover it elsewhere. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We are not going to argue with the findings. They described real gaps, and our manager and staff team have been working through them, with tighter medicines practice, clearer records, more training and supervision, and regular internal checks so that problems surface quickly.
We know improvement has to be demonstrated rather than asserted, and we are not there yet. If you are considering us for somebody, come and look round properly, ask exactly what has changed since the inspection, and speak to residents and relatives while you are in the building rather than relying on our own account of ourselves.
