About Us

Barclay House in Seaford, East Sussex, is a residential home supporting adults living with learning disabilities and autism, including people with a visual or hearing impairment, people with physical disabilities and people managing mental health conditions.

Sight loss alongside a learning disability changes what good support looks like, and a good deal of our practice is built around that. How a room is arranged, how information is given, how much warning somebody gets before something changes, how staff announce themselves when they come into a space. These sound like details. For the people who live here they are the difference between a world that makes sense and one that keeps ambushing them.

We support people to do as much for themselves as they want to and are able to, and we plan communication around each individual rather than around a general approach. Independence here is specific and practical. Finding your own way around the house, making your own drink, choosing your own day.

Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we welcome visits from families and professionals considering a place.
