About Us

The Old Vicarage at Airmyn is a residential care home near Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire. We provide a settled home for older people who can no longer manage comfortably on their own.

Much of our work is with people living with dementia. Our approach rests on patience and familiarity rather than on keeping people busy. The day has a shape without being run to a timetable, surroundings stay recognisable, and we avoid changing things for the sake of it. We spend time early on learning about somebody's life, work, family and habits, and we ask relatives for the small details as well as the medical ones, because those tend to be what helps most when someone is unsettled.

Otherwise, life here is decided by the people living it. They choose when to get up, what to eat, where to sit and how the day goes. Care is given discreetly and with respect for privacy, and we support people to carry on doing whatever they still can for themselves. Visitors are welcome at whatever time suits them.

Respite stays are available too, for family carers who need a planned break and for people needing a few weeks of support after illness or a hospital stay.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
