About Us

Avondale Residential Care Home is a residential home in Stourbridge, in the borough of Dudley, providing care for older people who need support with daily living but want to keep hold of their independence and routines.

We offer long stay residential care and also welcome people for respite, whether that is planned in advance so a family carer can take a break, or arranged after a spell in hospital when someone needs a little time and support before going home. Our care covers help with washing, dressing, mobility, medication and meals, and we pay proper attention to the parts of a day that are easy to overlook, such as sitting down together at mealtimes and having something to look forward to in the afternoon.

We think a care home should feel like a home rather than an institution. People bring their own belongings, choose how they spend their time, and are asked what they want rather than told what is happening. Families and friends are welcome, and we keep relatives informed about health and wellbeing without waiting to be chased.

Stourbridge is a good place to grow older, and we make use of the local area where we can. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. You are very welcome to visit and see the home for yourself.

More about the care at Avondale Residential Care Home

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Older people moving into Avondale Residential Care Home in Stourbridge can expect help with the routines that make up an ordinary day, including washing, dressing, prompts or support with medication, meals and the quieter business of companionship through the afternoon and evening. The home is registered with the Care Quality Commission for older person care, and was rated good at its December 2019 inspection. Families weighing up a move should ask how mornings and bedtimes are organised, how staff learn a new resident's preferences, and what cover looks like overnight. It is also worth asking how relatives are kept in the loop about health changes. Typical weekly fees across the West Midlands sit between about £850 and £1150, while Dudley council usually pays somewhere in the region of £680 to £820.

Respite Care

Short stays at Avondale are worth enquiring about early, especially around school holidays and Christmas when family carers most often need a break. Many homes ask for a minimum stay of one or two weeks, so check what applies here. Pack familiar clothes, toiletries, any medication in its original packaging, and a few personal bits that make a room feel like yours. A respite booking can also serve as a gentle trial before deciding on a permanent move.

Residential Care

Residential care covers the practical side of later life for people who no longer manage easily at home but do not need round the clock nursing from a registered nurse. That means help with personal care, meals cooked and served on site, support with medication, and the social side of the day, from shared mealtimes to whatever someone likes to do in the afternoon. Nursing care, by contrast, is for people with ongoing clinical needs such as complex wound care, PEG feeding or unstable long term conditions, and is delivered by a nursing team. Avondale is registered for residential care rather than nursing. Indicative weekly fees in the West Midlands run from around £850 to £1150, with Dudley council typically funding £680 to £820 for those who qualify. Ask about trial visits and what is included in the fee.
