About Thornfield Care Home
We are a residential care home in Seaton, Devon, providing a home for older people and for younger adults who need support with daily life, including people living with dementia. We also take respite bookings, either planned in advance so a family carer can have a break or arranged more quickly when somebody needs care for a period. We try to run the place at the pace of the people who live in it rather than at the pace of a rota. People get up when they are ready, eat what they actually want and spend the day as suits them. Some want company and something going on, others would rather sit quietly with a paper, and neither needs explaining to us. Dementia asks particular things of a care home. Familiar faces, a day that does not change shape without warning, and staff who understand that behaviour which looks difficult is usually a person trying to say something they can no longer put into words. That understanding comes from knowing somebody well, which is why keeping our team together matters so much to us. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families are welcome here and we would always rather you came and looked round than took our word for anything. Please contact us and we will find a time for you to visit and meet some of the people who live here.
