About Phoenix Lodge

Phoenix Lodge is a residential care home in the High Peak. We support older people and also adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and younger adults, and we offer respite stays. Having people of different ages and needs living together works, provided it is thought about rather than left to chance. Older residents often enjoy the company and a bit of life about the place, and younger residents benefit from a settled household rather than an institution. The key is not assuming everybody wants the same things. Meals, routines, outings and how much say a person wants over their own decisions get worked out individually. For residents with a learning disability or who are autistic, we treat the environment itself as part of the support. Noise, lighting, how predictable the day is and whether there is somewhere quiet to go all affect how a day turns out. We also learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech. The countryside around us is part of the appeal, and getting out is a normal part of the week. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to talk around that. We know which areas were raised, work is in hand, and we would rather discuss it openly with anyone considering Phoenix Lodge. Please visit, ask us directly what is changing, and judge the place on what you find.
