About The Birches

The Birches is a residential care home in Chesterfield supporting a wide range of adults. We care for older people and also support people living with mental ill health, people with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. Some of the people we support are living with an eating disorder or are affected by alcohol or drug misuse. Respite stays are available too. Supporting such a mixed group means there is no single way of running the home, and we do not pretend otherwise. What we aim for is a place where people are taken as they come and where support is built around the individual. Some residents need a very structured day. Others need the opposite, plenty of freedom and somewhere stable to come back to. We work without judgement. People who have struggled with addiction or with an eating disorder often arrive expecting to be treated as a problem to be managed, and that is not our approach. The same goes for people with a long history of mental ill health. Reliability and being treated as a capable adult do more good than advice nobody asked for, and we work alongside the clinicians involved rather than around them. Where sight, hearing or mobility is affected, we adapt the practical side properly rather than leaving people to cope. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit The Birches and ask us anything.
