About Melbury House
Melbury House is a residential care home in Seaham. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia and those living with mental ill health, people with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and some younger adults. Respite stays are available too. Supporting a mixed group under one roof means we cannot run the home to a single pattern, and we do not try. What we aim for is a place where people are taken as they come and where support is built around the individual. Some residents want a very structured day. Others want the opposite, plenty of freedom and somewhere steady to come back to. Where someone has a physical disability or reduced sight or hearing, we pay attention to the practical details. Equipment that suits the person, a layout that stays predictable, things kept where people expect to find them, and staff who adapt how they communicate. With dementia, familiar faces and a steady rhythm do most of the work, and we treat distress as something with a cause. Where mental ill health is part of the picture we work closely with community teams. Respite stays suit family carers needing a break and people recovering after illness. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit Melbury House.
