About Us

Here at The Old Vicarage Care Home in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, we provide residential and respite care for older people in a setting that genuinely feels like home. We are proud to have received a "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the effort and commitment our whole team brings to the care we offer every day.

We understand that choosing a care home, whether for yourself or someone you love, is one of the most significant decisions a family can make. That is why we take the time to get to know each person who comes to live with us or stays for a short respite break. We want to understand who they are, what matters to them, and how we can support them to live well and comfortably.

Our team works closely with residents and their families to make sure care is tailored to individual needs and preferences. We believe that good care is built on honest conversations, consistency, and genuine respect for each person's dignity and independence. Residents are encouraged to maintain their routines, pursue their interests, and stay connected with the people who matter most to them.

For those joining us for respite care, we aim to make the transition as smooth and welcoming as possible. Whether someone is recovering after a hospital stay or giving a family carer a much needed break, we treat every short stay with the same level of attention and warmth as any long term placement.

We are rooted in the local community of St Neots and we value the relationships we have built with residents, families and those who support us from the wider area. If you would like to find out more or come for a visit, we would be very glad to hear from you.

More about the care at The Old Vicarage Care Home

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Support for older people in a care home usually means help with the parts of the day that have become harder, whether that is washing, dressing, managing continence, prompting or administering medication, or simply having company through quieter hours. The Old Vicarage Care Home is registered with the CQC for older person care and holds a Good rating from its April 2019 inspection. Families thinking about a move should ask how mornings and evenings are structured, how staff learn a new resident's preferences, and how meals and quiet time are balanced across the week. It is also worth asking how many staff are awake overnight, how call bells are answered, and how the home keeps GP, district nurse and pharmacy contact steady once someone has settled in.

Respite Care

A short stay at The Old Vicarage Care Home in St Neots is worth enquiring about well in advance, as respite rooms are often booked up. Most homes ask for a minimum of one or two weeks and will want up to date medication and GP details, along with comfortable clothing, toiletries and a few familiar items. A planned break can also serve as a gentle trial before any decision about permanent care.

Residential Care

Residential care is for people who need reliable help with daily life but do not require input from a registered nurse on site. That typically covers cooked meals, laundry, help with bathing and dressing, medication support, and a shared programme of activities and outings. Nursing care, by contrast, is for those with clinical needs such as complex wound care, PEG feeding or ongoing nursing observation. The Old Vicarage Care Home is registered for residential care rather than nursing, so if health needs change over time the home would usually work with community nurses and the GP, or discuss whether a nursing setting might suit better. Weekly fees across the East of England tend to fall between roughly £1000 and £1350, while Cambridgeshire County Council typically funds around £750 to £900 a week for those eligible.
