About Lavender House
Lavender House is a residential care home in Hove, supporting adults managing mental health conditions. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. Our work is less about doing things for people than about helping a life hold its shape. Getting up, eating properly, taking medication, having something in the week that belongs to the person rather than to their care. For many of those living here, mental ill health has made those ordinary rhythms hard to sustain alone, and a settled household of people who know you well is what makes them possible again. We are careful to keep this feeling like a home rather than a unit. People have their own space and their own routine, they come and go as adults, and they have a genuine say in how the place runs. Progress is uneven and does not follow a timetable, so we try to be steady rather than to push, and we do not treat a difficult week as a failure or a reason to give up on somebody. Being in Hove helps, because the seafront, the shops, colleges and places to meet people are within walking distance, and being known locally does more for confidence than arranged activity. The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. We keep asking what would make this a better place to live, and acting on the answers.
