About Us

Ireland Lodge is a residential care home in Brighton, run by Brighton and Hove City Council. We support older people and younger adults with a wide span of needs, including residents living with dementia, residents with mental health needs, residents with physical disabilities, residents with visual or hearing impairment, people living with an eating disorder and people recovering from problems with alcohol or drugs. We also offer respite stays for shorter periods.

Supporting such a mixed group of residents well means knowing each of them properly, so we plan support one person at a time. We help with personal care, meals, medication and appointments, and we support people to keep up the interests, work, study and friendships that make a week feel like their own. Where someone manages something themselves, we protect that and stay nearby rather than taking over.

Dementia care shapes much of our work, so we keep the day familiar and offer reassurance rather than correction when a resident is unsettled. Mental health needs, eating disorders and recovery all ask for patience and for noticing a change early rather than waiting for a crisis, and we work closely with colleagues in local health teams where that helps.

Families are welcome and we would far rather hear a concern early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and we hold ourselves to it day by day.
