About Abbeyfield House
Abbeyfield House is a residential care home in Sutton Coldfield, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays. We treat this as where people live rather than where they have been placed. People arrange their own rooms, have a genuine say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the household runs. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a club, we treat that as the purpose of our support rather than an extra. Where a person communicates differently, whether because of a sensory impairment or for any other reason, we deal with that first and properly. Everything else we do rests on it, and it is the thing most often left half done. We are careful about routine and about giving notice of change, since for many of those living here knowing what is happening and who is on shift is what makes a day manageable. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what they would change, and we would rather act on a small complaint now than a serious one later.
