About Us
Grace House Residential Care Home is a care home in Barnet, north London, supporting older people, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities.
We are a residential home, so the emphasis here falls on daily life rather than clinical routine. Meals, company, familiar habits, visitors coming and going, time outside, and something in the day worth being up for. Help with washing, dressing, medication and moving about runs alongside all of that.
We think the first few weeks matter more than anything else. Moving into a care home is a significant upheaval, and how somebody is received sets the tone for a long time afterwards. We take time over people's histories, encourage them to bring their own furniture and pictures, and never push anyone to join in before they are ready.
For people living with dementia we work with familiarity: consistent staff, consistent routines, and an approach that goes alongside the person rather than correcting them. Where someone is distressed we look first for a cause we can put right, whether that is pain, noise, boredom or something as ordinary as needing the toilet.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Requires Improvement. We would rather say that ourselves. We have accepted the findings, there is an improvement plan in place, and we will answer questions about it honestly, including about what is not yet finished.
Respite stays are available. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time.
