About Cofton Park Manor Care Home

Cofton Park Manor Care Home provides nursing care to older people on the southern edge of Birmingham, with respite stays also available. Many of our residents live with dementia. Having qualified nurses on site around the clock changes what we can offer. Health needs are recognised and dealt with here, by people who already know the resident, which often spares somebody a hospital admission they would find distressing and from which frail people frequently return weaker than they went in. It also means a family ringing with a concern can get a proper answer straight away. For residents living with dementia, our approach depends on familiarity more than on anything clinical. The same staff, a routine that keeps its shape, surroundings that make sense, and the patience to give somebody time to respond in their own way. Where a resident is distressed we look for the cause, which is usually pain, confusion, boredom or fear, rather than simply managing what is in front of us. The nursing belongs in the background of the day. It has to be done properly and then got out of the way so that the day can be about company, food, fresh air and the things a person enjoys. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good. Anyone considering a place for a relative is welcome to visit and see the home for themselves.
