About Woodbury House

Woodbury House is a nursing home in Reading providing nursing care for older people and for younger adults, including people living with dementia. Respite stays are available for those who need nursing care for a shorter time. Having registered nurses on duty allows us to care for people whose health needs are complex or changing, and it means somebody does not have to move again when their condition progresses. We manage medication, wounds, continence, nutrition and pain, we watch for the early signs that somebody is becoming unwell, and we work jointly with GPs, community teams and hospital colleagues so that problems are dealt with quickly. Good nursing is the foundation, but this is a home and not a ward. Residents keep their own routines as far as their health allows, they have their own belongings around them, and our staff take trouble to learn about the life a person led before they came here. That knowledge changes the whole tone of the care they receive. For residents living with dementia, we keep the surroundings calm and familiar and pair staff with people consistently, which heads off a great deal of distress before it starts. We keep families properly in the picture rather than contacting them only when something has gone wrong, and we involve them in decisions as a relative's health changes. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable hour. If you are looking for nursing care in Reading or the surrounding area, please arrange a visit and ask us anything you need to.
