About Mount Olivet Nursing Home

Mount Olivet is a nursing home in Paignton. We care for people who need qualified nursing on the premises, including many people living with dementia, and we also offer respite stays for those who need nursing care for a shorter period. Dementia nursing is much of what we do, and it shapes how the home is run. We keep the environment calm and easy to make sense of, we allow people to move about rather than expecting them to sit still, and we take our lead from the person in front of us. When someone is distressed we look for the reason rather than treating the distress itself as the problem. Knowing about a person's working life, their family and their habits is what makes that possible, so we ask relatives to tell us as much as they can. On the clinical side, having nurses here at all hours means we can manage changing health, skin and wound care and complicated medication, and support people well at the end of their lives without unnecessary moves. Families are welcome, and we would far rather relatives visited often and asked questions than felt they were intruding. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
