About Us
Kensington Care Home is a nursing home in Northallerton. We care for older people and younger adults whose needs call for qualified nursing, including people living with dementia, people managing a mental health condition, people with a physical disability and people living with a visual or hearing impairment.
Nursing here is meant to sit quietly underneath ordinary life rather than dominate it. Nurses are on hand, and we work closely with GPs, district nurses, therapists, mental health teams and hospital services, but nobody should feel that they live in a treatment room. Getting that balance right depends on staff knowing residents properly, so we protect continuity as much as the rota allows.
For people living with dementia we hold routines steady, give plenty of time and treat distress as something with a cause. For people managing a mental health condition we plan in advance with them, agreeing what helps on a difficult day and who they would want involved. Where somebody has sensory or physical needs, we get the practical details right, because comfort and dignity are built out of details.
Respite and short stays are available, including recovery after a hospital admission.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are considering nursing care for someone, we would be glad to show you round.
