About Us
We are Gilby House, a nursing home in Winterton. We provide nursing care for older people and for younger adults, including people managing a mental health condition alongside physical health needs.
Having nurses on duty at all hours changes what we are able to do. Health problems are noticed early, medication and treatment are managed properly on site, and families are not left wondering what cover exists overnight. For people whose needs are complex or changing, that steadiness is the whole point.
We also try hard not to let the clinical side swallow ordinary life. People here choose when to get up, what they eat and how to spend their days. Some want company and conversation, others want their own room and their own routine, and both are fine. Our staff take time to learn about the person behind the care plan, because that is what makes the difference between being looked after and being processed.
Where somebody is managing a mental health condition we work calmly and consistently, and we liaise with community teams and GPs so that support is joined up rather than fragmented.
Relatives are welcome whenever they wish to visit, and we keep them informed when anything changes.
We offer respite stays as well as permanent places. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a visit.
