About Us
Carter House is a nursing home in Merton, south London. We care for older people whose health needs go beyond residential care, and for younger adults living with conditions that require qualified nursing. Respite stays are available when a family carer needs a break or cover.
Registered nurses are on duty here at all hours. Medication is managed closely, wound care, catheter care and conditions that vary from week to week are handled on site, and a change in a resident's health tends to be noticed early because the person noticing knows them well. We work with GPs, district nurses, therapists and hospital teams, and we press on a resident's behalf when something is slow in coming.
Dementia care sits alongside the clinical side of our work and cannot really be separated from it. Somebody in pain or frightened who cannot say so will show us in other ways, and reading that properly depends on knowing the person. So we ask families about working lives, music, food and old habits, and we keep the day calm and familiar rather than busy and full of surprises.
For younger adults, we are conscious that nobody plans to live in a nursing home, so privacy, independence and holding on to friendships and interests get real attention here.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families are welcome at any reasonable hour. Ring us if you would like to look round.
