About Us

Here at Havelock Court Care Home, we provide nursing care for adults in the heart of Lambeth, London. We support a wide range of individuals, including older adults, people living with dementia, those with learning disabilities or autism, adults experiencing mental health difficulties, and people with physical disabilities. We also welcome younger adults and offer respite care for those who need a shorter stay, whether to recover after a period of illness or to give family carers a chance to rest.

We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a person and their family can make, and we do not take that responsibility lightly. Our team works hard to understand each resident as an individual, taking the time to learn about their history, preferences, and what matters most to them in everyday life. Care plans are built around the person rather than around a routine, and we regularly review these to make sure they remain relevant as needs change.

We want to be honest about where we are as a service. Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection resulted in an overall rating of requires improvement, and we have taken that feedback seriously. We have been working through the areas identified and making genuine changes to how we operate. We believe in being transparent with families and prospective residents about this, because trust is built through honesty rather than reassurance alone.

Havelock Court is a place where staff genuinely get to know the people they care for, and where families are always welcome to be involved. If you are considering care for yourself or someone close to you, we encourage you to come and visit, ask us questions, and see the home for yourself. We would be happy to show you around and have an open conversation about whether we might be the right fit.

More about the care at Havelock Court Care Home

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Havelock Court has been on the CQC register since 1 October 2010, which makes it long established by the standards of this directory. For older residents the daily work is help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and company through the quieter hours. The home says its team takes time to learn each resident's history and preferences and that care plans are built around the person rather than around a routine. Those plans are reviewed as needs change by its own account. Ask how many staff are awake overnight in this Lambeth home, how quickly a call bell is answered, and who checks that a resident's own timings are being kept.

Dementia

An inspection in November 2022 left Havelock Court with an overall rating of requires improvement, which the home acknowledges rather than skirts, saying it has taken the feedback seriously. That is the first thing to raise about dementia care, because a family needs to know what was found and what has changed. Good dementia care depends on routines that hold, a layout that feels calm and secure, and staff who can read distress before it escalates. The home says it tries to understand what matters most to each resident in everyday life. Ask what the inspection raised, what dementia training staff receive, and how distress, walking and changing needs are handled.

Learning Disability / Autism

Taking time to learn about a resident's history, preferences and what matters most is how this Lambeth home describes its method. For a learning disability or autism that approach is the whole point, together with predictable routines, attention to sensory needs and patience over independence skills. Ask who holds the relevant training, how Lambeth commissions and reviews a placement, and how many residents of this group live there.

Mental Health

Eight categories appear on Havelock Court's registration, mental health among them, which is a broad span for a single building. Support of that kind rests on stability, routine and ordinary dignity rather than any particular programme. Ask who on the staff has mental health experience, what happens when someone is in crisis, and how the home works with community mental health services.

Physical Disability

Bupa Care Homes has held the registration for Havelock Court since 2010, so this is not a new operation. For a physical disability the practical matters are accessible bathing, space to move a wheelchair, safe transfers and staff who know how an individual prefers to be helped. Ask what equipment comes with a room, how transfers are staffed, and whether an adapted bathroom can be seen.

Younger Adults

Younger adults are explicitly welcomed here, which the home states alongside its nursing and dementia work. In a nursing home most residents are likely to be considerably older than 65, so the question is what a week actually holds for someone younger. Ask who else of a similar age lives there, what activities suit them, and how freely a person can come and go.

Respite Care

Respite care is one of the registered categories at Havelock Court, offered for a shorter stay to recover after illness or to give a family carer a rest. Short stays usually need booking well ahead and often carry a minimum length, so ask what that is here. Pack medication, a list of routines and a few familiar things, and treat the stay as a trial run for anything permanent.

Nursing Care

London weekly fees for a nursing home commonly run from £1400 to £1850, while Lambeth council usually pays about £1000 to £1200. Nursing care means registered nurses on duty at every hour, which is what distinguishes it from residential care and makes it right for someone whose health needs regular clinical attention. Havelock Court is registered for nursing alongside seven other categories, so the range of people it may admit is unusually wide. Where a nursing need is assessed, NHS Funded Nursing Care contributes about £235 a week towards the bill. Ask how that is shown on an invoice and what the gap between the fee and the council rate would mean for a family.
