About Us
Avondale Mental Healthcare Centre in Prescot provides nursing care for adults with mental health needs, with qualified nurses on duty at all times. We also offer respite stays.
Our work sits where mental health care and nursing meet, and doing it well means refusing to let either side crowd out the other. The clinical side has to be dependable, so medicines, physical health, nutrition and sleep are attended to properly and reviewed with the person wherever they are able to take part. At the same time, the people here are adults with their own histories, opinions and plans, and a place that treats them as a set of symptoms will not help them recover.
So we are consistent about how things run, we say what we mean, and we do not pretend a difficulty is not there. People tell us that steadiness and clear expectations help more than reassurance does. People keep their own rooms and belongings, have a real say in daily life, and are supported to keep up the relationships and interests that matter to them.
We work closely with community mental health teams, GPs and other professionals rather than in isolation, and we involve families and advocates as much as the person wants.
Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall, which we read mainly as a sign that the daily things are being done properly.
