About Us
Conewood Manor Nursing Home is near Bishops Stortford, providing nursing care to older adults and to some younger adults, with respite stays available. Many of our residents live with dementia.
Having registered nurses on site at all hours changes what we can offer. Health needs are picked up and dealt with here, by people who already know the resident, which often spares somebody a hospital admission they would find distressing and from which frail people frequently return weaker than they went in. Families can also get a proper clinical answer when they ring.
For residents living with dementia our approach depends on familiarity more than on anything clinical. The same staff, a routine that keeps its shape, surroundings that make sense, and the patience to give somebody time to respond in their own way. Where a resident is distressed we look for the cause, which is usually pain, confusion, boredom or fear, rather than simply managing what is in front of us.
The nursing belongs in the background of the day. Done properly and then got out of the way, so that the day can be about company, food, fresh air and the things a person enjoys.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good.
Anyone considering a place for themselves or a relative is welcome to visit and see the home for themselves.
