About Us
The Garth is a care home with nursing in Kington, Herefordshire. We provide nursing and personal care for older people and for younger adults whose health needs go beyond what can reasonably be managed at home, including residents living with dementia, residents with physical disabilities and residents with visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite stays for shorter periods.
Having qualified nurses in the team means that someone whose health becomes complex or changeable does not have to move on again. We work closely with doctors, district nurses and therapists when a resident's condition alters, and clinical care is given with the same attention to dignity and privacy as every other part of the day.
Nursing is only part of life here, and we try hard not to let it become the whole of a resident's day. We ask people about their history, their work, their family, their faith and their food, and we build the day around those answers rather than around the rota. Dementia care shapes much of what we do, so we keep the day familiar and offer reassurance rather than correction. For residents with sensory loss we adapt how we communicate and how shared spaces are arranged.
Families are welcome here and we would far rather hear a concern early than discover later that something was wrong. Anyone considering The Garth is welcome to visit and see the home on an ordinary day.
