About Us
Here at Marie Louise House, we provide nursing home care for older people in the heart of Romsey, Hampshire. We are proud to have received a "Good" rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the commitment and consistency of everyone who works here.
We care for older adults with a range of needs, including those living with dementia, people who require ongoing nursing care, and individuals who are looking for a shorter respite stay. Whether someone comes to us for a few weeks to recover and recharge, or they make Marie Louise House their long term home, we aim to make sure they feel genuinely settled, respected and well looked after.
Dementia care is a significant part of what we do, and we work hard to ensure that residents living with dementia feel safe and understood. We take time to get to know each person as an individual, learning about their history, preferences and routines so that the support we offer actually fits their life rather than asking them to fit around ours.
Our nursing team means we are able to support residents with more complex health needs on site, working closely with GPs and other healthcare professionals to make sure care stays joined up and responsive. Families are always welcome here, and we encourage people to stay involved and informed at every stage.
Romsey is a lovely town and we think our location adds something real to daily life here. Whether it is enjoying the garden, taking part in activities or simply having a proper conversation over a cup of tea, the small things matter to us just as much as the clinical side of care.
If you would like to find out more or arrange a visit, we would be very happy to hear from you.

More about the care at Marie Louise House Nursing Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
An older person's day in a nursing home is shaped by other people's shifts, which is why staffing numbers are not a dull detail. Help with washing and dressing, medication administered on time, meals and plain company make up most of the work. Marie Louise House Nursing Home is registered for older person care, with typical weekly fees in the South East running from £1350 to £1750 and Hampshire paying about £950 to £1150 for the places it funds. The difference between those figures is where a top up is usually required, so raise it at the outset. Ask how much choice residents have over routines, how many staff are awake at night, and how quickly a call bell is answered.
Dementia
Orientation is something a building either gives a person or takes away, and for someone with dementia that is the difference between a calm day and a frightening one. Short corridors, visible lavatories, a garden reachable without asking permission, and the same staff on the same shifts all do quiet work. Distress is almost always caused by something, usually pain, noise or needing the lavatory, and a team that looks for the cause first is the one to trust. Marie Louise House Nursing Home is registered for dementia care, so ask how staff respond when a resident tries to leave or stops recognising a relative. Ask also whether somebody can stay to the end of life, and how families are kept informed.
Respite Care
Short stays are rarely spontaneous in practice, since rooms are limited and the obvious weeks are taken months ahead. Most homes set a minimum of one or two weeks, and the packing list is simple: labelled clothing, medication in its original packaging, and a few familiar objects. Many families use a stay at Marie Louise House Nursing Home as a trial, which is a more honest test than any tour.
Nursing Care
Qualified nursing cover is bought around the clock rather than by the visit, and that is the whole point of a nursing home. People who need it typically have wounds requiring regular dressing, feeding tubes, unstable conditions, or dementia alongside clinical needs a residential home could not meet. Marie Louise House Nursing Home in Romsey is registered for nursing care, and its last published rating from the Care Quality Commission was good, following an inspection in May 2018. That report is now several years old, so ask what has changed since and whether a further inspection is due. Where the NHS agrees a registered nurse is needed, NHS Funded Nursing Care adds about £235 a week towards the nursing element and lowers the family's share. Ask who applies and how often it is reviewed.
