About Us

Here at Ambika Lodge Care Home, we provide nursing care for people living on Canvey Island and across Essex, offering a warm and familiar environment where residents feel genuinely at home. We are rated Good by the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the effort our whole team puts into day to day life here.

We support a wide range of needs under one roof. Older adults and younger adults alike are welcome, and we have particular experience in dementia care, nursing care, and supporting people living with physical disabilities or visual and hearing impairments. We also offer respite care for those who need a short stay, whether that is to recover after a hospital admission or to give family carers a much needed break.

What matters most to us is that every person who comes through our doors is treated as an individual. We take time to get to know residents, their histories, their preferences, and the small things that make a real difference to how they feel each day. Care plans are built around the person, not the other way around.

Our team works closely with residents, families, and healthcare professionals to make sure support is joined up and responsive. We understand that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can face, and we do our best to make that process as straightforward and reassuring as possible. Families are always welcome to visit, ask questions, and stay involved in their loved one's care.

We are proud to be part of the Canvey Island community and to provide a safe, comfortable and lively place where people can continue to live well. If you would like to find out more or arrange a visit, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

More about the care at Ambika Lodge Care Home

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

For most older residents the important things are a wash without rush, meals they enjoy and someone who stops to talk. Ambika Lodge Care Home in Canvey Island is registered for older person care with nursing available on site. Ask how the day runs, how much choice there is about getting up and going to bed, and how often bathing happens. Ask how many carers and nurses are on duty at night and how many are awake. The home was rated good at its April 2021 inspection, something the provider notes itself. Private fees in the East can run from £1250 to £1600 a week, while Essex usually funds at £900 to £1100.

Dementia

Dementia asks a great deal of a home, because the same person may need reassurance one hour and space the next. Ambika Lodge Care Home holds a dementia registration, a permission rather than a description of practice. Ask what training staff receive, how they respond to distress or attempts to leave, and whether any sedating medication is used. Ask whether the building allows safe movement and whether rooms can be filled with familiar belongings. It is fair to ask how the home manages the later stages, including eating difficulties and care at the end of life.

Physical Disability

Equipment, space and trained hands determine whether personal care feels safe or frightening for a disabled resident. Ambika Lodge Care Home is registered to support people with a physical disability. Ask which rooms have ceiling tracking, how therapy is arranged, and how continence and pressure care are managed.

Visual / Hearing Impairment

Someone who cannot see or hear well depends on routines staying put and on staff announcing themselves clearly. Ambika Lodge Care Home is registered to support people with a visual or hearing impairment. Ask about lighting and signage, whether a loop is available, and how hearing aids and large print information are handled.

Younger Adults

Clinical care is only half the question for a younger resident, since the other half is what fills the day. Ambika Lodge Care Home is registered to support adults under sixty five. Ask who else of a similar age lives there, how independence is supported and how privacy is protected.

Respite Care

Arranging a nursing respite stay starts with an assessment of needs, so allow more notice than you think necessary. Ambika Lodge Care Home is registered for short stays, typically of one or two weeks. Send everyday clothes, toiletries, a prescription list and dispensed medicines, and use the stay to judge a permanent move.

Nursing Care

Qualified nurses on every shift, including nights, are what separate a nursing home from a residential one. Ambika Lodge Care Home is registered for nursing care, which fits people with unstable health, complex medication, pressure wounds or a feeding tube. Anyone assessed as requiring nursing care in a home receives NHS Funded Nursing Care, about £235 a week paid to the home and taken off the family's bill. Ask whether that contribution is itemised on the invoice and what the rest of the fee covers. Ask how many nurses are on each shift and how the home responds when a resident deteriorates.
