About Us

Abbots Wood Manor is a nursing home in Hailsham, and we look after older people who need registered nurses on hand at any hour of the day or night. Many of the people who come to us have several health conditions running alongside each other, and a good number are living with dementia. We also take respite admissions, either as a planned break for a family who has been caring at home, or for someone who needs a period of recovery after illness or a hospital stay.

Good nursing here means the quiet things done consistently. Skin looked after, pain taken seriously and treated, food and drink offered in a way that suits the person rather than the schedule, and medication reviewed properly with GPs and community teams. When somebody is approaching the end of their life we plan that with the family in advance where we can, so that wishes about comfort, place and visitors are known and respected.

Dementia care rests on knowing people. We ask families for the ordinary details, the jobs, the songs, the pets, the habits of a lifetime, because those are what settle a difficult evening. Relatives are welcome to come and go rather than wait for set hours, and we would always rather hear a concern early.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are considering a nursing home for someone close to you, come and see us on a normal day and ask us whatever you need to.
