About Knappe Cross Care Centre
Knappe Cross Care Centre is a nursing home in Exmouth, Devon. We care for older people whose health needs go beyond what residential care can provide, and we also take respite stays when a family carer needs a break or cover. Having registered nurses on duty at every hour is the foundation of what we do. Medication is managed carefully, wound care, catheter care and long standing conditions are dealt with on site rather than through a run of appointments elsewhere, and a change in a resident's health tends to be noticed early because the person noticing knows them well. We work closely with GPs, district nurses, therapists and hospital teams, and we follow things up on a resident's behalf when they are slow to move. Nursing is only half of what a home should be, and we try hard not to let clinical routine crowd out ordinary life. Residents choose when to get up, where to sit, what they would like to eat and whether they want company or quiet. Rooms are people's own space, filled with their own things, and visitors come when it suits them. Dementia care is a significant part of our work. Knowing what somebody did for a living, what music they liked and how they took their tea is genuinely practical information once words become unreliable, and families are the ones who hold it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us if you would like to come and see an ordinary day here.
