About Us
Here at Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing in Matlock, Derbyshire, we provide nursing and residential care for older adults, people living with dementia, those with physical disabilities, and younger adults who require specialist support. We also offer respite care for those who need a short term stay, whether for recovery, a planned break, or during a period of change.
We are proud to hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the consistent effort our team puts into making sure every person who lives here is treated with respect, kindness, and genuine attention to their individual needs. We do not take that rating for granted and we continue to look at how we can do things better.
Matlock is a beautiful part of Derbyshire, and we feel fortunate to be based in such a welcoming community. Our surroundings play a real part in the wellbeing of the people we support, and we make the most of the local area wherever we can.
Our nursing care is available around the clock, which means families can feel reassured that clinical support is always on hand. For those living with dementia, we work hard to create an environment and a daily rhythm that feels familiar and calm, reducing anxiety and supporting a good quality of life.
We believe care works best when we truly know the person, not just their care needs but their history, their preferences, and what matters most to them. We involve residents and their families in decisions about care, and we welcome open conversations at any stage.
If you are considering Valley Lodge for yourself or someone close to you, we would encourage you to get in touch or come and see us in person. We are always happy to show you around and answer any questions you may have.

More about the care at Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Much of what matters to an older resident happens in the first hour of the day and the last, when help with washing, dressing and settling is most needed. Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing is registered for older person care. Medication, meals and the simple presence of someone to talk to fill in the rest. Families should ask whether residents choose their own waking and bedtime or follow the home's rota. Night staffing is worth asking about in numbers, along with how quickly call bells are answered after midnight. Weekly fees in the East Midlands commonly fall between 1050 and 1350 pounds, while the county council usually pays around 820 to 1000.
Dementia
A building that makes sense to someone with dementia, with clear sightlines and recognisable spaces, prevents a great deal of distress before it begins. Dementia care is among the registrations held by Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing. Ask how staff are trained to respond when a resident becomes agitated, frightened or determined to leave. Find out how the home balances secure doors against the freedom to walk about. Where dementia and nursing needs occur together, ask which staff member leads on each and how the two are coordinated. Families should also ask how they are kept involved as decisions become harder.
Physical Disability
Hoists, wide doorways and bathrooms designed for assisted washing are what make daily life workable for a resident with a physical disability. Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing is registered in this area. Ask to see the equipment in use, check how many staff attend a transfer, and find out who arranges wheelchair and seating reviews.
Younger Adults
Life at 45 in a home designed around people in their late eighties can feel narrow without deliberate effort. Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing is registered to care for adults under 65. Ask how many younger residents live there at present and what is available to them during the day.
Respite Care
Short stays are often arranged at speed, after a fall or a hospital discharge, rather than planned months ahead. Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing is registered to provide respite. Ask what the minimum booking is, how quickly a place can be offered, and what medical information the home needs in advance.
Nursing Care
Registered nurses on duty at all hours are what define a nursing home, and they are needed where there are wounds to dress, catheters to manage, or conditions that can turn quickly. Valley Lodge Care Home with Nursing in Matlock holds a nursing registration. Anyone assessed as requiring that level of care qualifies for NHS Funded Nursing Care, a payment of roughly 235 pounds a week made to the home towards the nursing element of the fee. That sum reduces what a family has to find, so ask how it appears on the bill and who applies for it. The Care Quality Commission rated the home good after inspecting in August 2023. Ask also how the home responds when a resident's health deteriorates and when a hospital admission would be considered.
