About St Margaret's Care Home
St Margaret's Care Home is a nursing home in Durham. We care for older people who need qualified nursing alongside help with daily life, for residents living with dementia and for people whose physical disability requires skilled support. We also care for some younger adults with complex health needs. Having nurses on duty at every hour means we can manage wound and pressure care, continence and catheter needs, diabetes, pain relief and end of life care, working closely with GPs, district nurses and hospital teams. It also means somebody whose health declines can usually stay here, among familiar faces, rather than being moved at the hardest possible moment. Moving and handling forms a large part of our work. Done properly it is unhurried, explained as it happens and carried out with the right equipment. For residents living with dementia we keep surroundings calm, routines predictable and staff consistent, and we give people time to find their words. Respite stays are available, including nursing support after a hospital discharge. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families across County Durham are welcome to visit.
