About Us
Lyons Court is a nursing and residential care home in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. We care for older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, mental health conditions, learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Because we support people with quite different needs, we plan around individuals rather than running everything to one pattern. Residents decide when to get up, what to eat, where to spend their time and how their support is given, and rooms belong to the people living in them. Having registered nurses on site means that complex health needs, wound care, diabetes, pain relief and care at the end of life can be managed here, calmly and by people who know the resident, rather than through repeated hospital trips. We work closely with GPs, district nurses and specialist teams. For residents living with dementia we keep routines and faces as consistent as we can and respond to the feeling behind what someone is saying. For residents with physical disabilities or sensory loss, sensible equipment and adaptations are what make independence possible. Families are welcome and we would much rather hear a concern early. If you would like to visit, meet the team and ask us difficult questions, please get in touch.
