About Us
Primrose House Nursing Home is in Crewe, providing nursing care for older people and younger adults across Cheshire East, including many people living with dementia.
Having qualified nurses on site at all hours is what allows us to look after people whose health needs are substantial and liable to change. Medication, wound care, careful attention to nutrition, pain and skin, and the close monitoring that catches deterioration early are the ordinary content of our days rather than exceptional events. For families worn down by a run of hospital admissions, the end of that cycle is usually the first change they notice.
Dementia nursing is a large part of what we do. People living with advanced dementia are often assumed to have stopped noticing, and in our experience that is simply wrong. Tone of voice registers. Being rushed registers. A familiar face registers. So we protect continuity of staffing, we talk to people rather than about them, and we take the time to learn what soothes a particular person when they are frightened, because it is rarely the same thing twice.
Families often carry a good deal of guilt about this stage, and part of our job is making the home somewhere they want to be rather than somewhere they visit out of duty.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as a floor. Visit at a busy time and ask the nurses how the hard nights go.

More about the care at Primrose House Nursing Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Primrose House is registered for 42 people, smaller than 59 of the 103 homes nearby and below the local average of 49. A smaller home can mean more familiar faces for an older resident, though it also means fewer staff on the floor at any moment. Daily care covers washing, dressing, meals and company, while the home's own text puts medication, nutrition, pain and skin among the ordinary content of its days. There is a GP surgery and a pharmacy within 0.1 miles of this Crewe home, which keeps routine health matters close at hand. Ask how many staff are awake overnight in a home of 42 places, and how a resident's own routine is recorded and followed.
Dementia
The most recent inspection report for this home is dated 4 March 2020, and 47 of the 103 homes in the area have published a newer one since. Its overall rating of good is therefore old, and because the current registration began in May 2026 it may relate to an earlier registration or provider. Primrose House says dementia nursing is a large part of its work, and argues that people with advanced dementia have not stopped noticing, since tone of voice, being rushed and a familiar face all register. It adds that it protects continuity of staffing and learns what soothes a particular person when frightened. Ask what training staff receive, how distress and walking are handled, and how care changes as dementia progresses.
Younger Adults
Only eight of the 103 homes in this part of Cheshire East have registered more recently than Primrose House did in May 2026. The home is registered for younger adults alongside older people, but with 42 places most residents are likely to be much older. Crewe Station is 1.7 miles away. Ask what a week offers someone under 65 and who else of a similar age lives there.
Nursing Care
Leighton Hospital in Crewe, 3.7 miles off, is the nearest 24 hour A&E to Primrose House. Nursing care means qualified nurses on site at all hours, which the home says lets it look after people whose health needs are substantial and liable to change. It describes wound care, close monitoring and catching deterioration early as routine rather than exceptional, and notes that families worn down by repeated hospital admissions usually notice that cycle ending first. Weekly fees in the North West commonly run from £1000 to £1300, with Cheshire East council paying about £800 to £980. NHS Funded Nursing Care adds roughly £235 a week where a nursing need is agreed, so ask how that is shown against the fee.
