About Us
We are a nursing home on Thornhill Road in Brighouse, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults whose needs include nursing care. We also offer respite stays.
Having registered nurses as part of the team matters here for a particular reason. People with learning disabilities often have health needs that go unnoticed or get attributed to their disability rather than investigated, and the consequences of that are well documented and serious. Having nursing knowledge in the building means somebody is watching for the physical health problem behind a change in behaviour rather than simply managing the behaviour.
Beyond that, this is somebody's home. People arrange their own rooms, have a say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the household runs. Where somebody can do something themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to do it faster for them.
Predictability is something we take seriously. Knowing what is happening and who will be on shift is often what separates a settled day from a difficult one, so we plan ahead and explain changes early rather than rearranging casually.
Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here, and the people who know them best, what we should be doing differently.
