About Birch Hall Care Centre
Birch Hall Care Centre provides nursing care in Darwen, for older people and for younger adults whose needs mean that qualified nursing support is required day and night. We look after people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autism, people with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, and residents with sight or hearing loss. It is a broad remit, and it means our staff need to know each person individually rather than relying on a general idea of what a resident needs. Alongside longer stays we take respite bookings, which helps families who care for a relative at home and need a planned break, and people leaving hospital who need nursing support for a while before going home. We would rather be open about our position than leave families to find it out elsewhere. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. That was a fair reflection of shortfalls that had built up, and we have taken it seriously. Our manager has put tighter routines in place around medicines, record keeping and staff training, and senior staff now carry out regular checks so that problems surface quickly instead of quietly. There is still work to do and we are not going to claim otherwise. If you are considering Birch Hall for someone you love, please come and see us, ask hard questions, and speak to residents and relatives while you are here.
