About Us
Stella and Harry Freedman House in Barnet provides nursing and residential care to older adults, and to some younger adults, with respite stays also available.
Having both levels of care in one place is genuinely useful to the people who live here. Needs change, sometimes gradually and sometimes suddenly, and being able to meet a greater level of need without asking somebody to move again spares them an upheaval that frail or confused people find very hard. Continuity of place and of familiar faces is worth a great deal.
Qualified nurses are on site at all hours, so health problems are picked up and dealt with here by people who know the resident, rather than through hospital admissions that often leave somebody weaker and more disoriented than when they went in.
Many of our residents live with dementia. What helps is unremarkable and takes discipline: a steady routine, familiar staff, surroundings that make sense, time given rather than grudged, and looking for the cause of distress instead of simply managing the moment.
Alongside the care there has to be a life worth having. Food worth looking forward to, visitors made welcome, something to do, fresh air, and a genuine say in how the day goes.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good.
Anyone considering a move for themselves or a relative is welcome to visit and see how the place feels.
