About Home Instead

We are the Home Instead team in Waltham Forest, supporting people in their own homes across the borough. We work with older people and people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people managing a mental health condition, people with a physical disability or a visual or hearing impairment, and younger adults who want to live independently with the right backing. Our visits are built to be unhurried. A great deal of what makes home care worth having happens around the practical task rather than in it, in the conversation while the kettle boils or on the walk to the shops, and that simply does not happen in a rushed quarter of an hour. We would rather do fewer things properly than tick off a list. We give thought to which carer goes to which household, and then keep that arrangement steady so a genuine relationship can build. It is better care and it is also how somebody comes to trust us enough to accept help with the more personal things. Every arrangement starts with a proper conversation at home, with family involved if the person wants that. We write the plan together and revisit it as things change.
