About Us
At Rula Homecare, we support people in their own homes across Ipswich and the wider Suffolk area, helping them live as independently and comfortably as possible. We work with a wide range of individuals, including older adults, younger adults, people living with dementia, those with learning disabilities or autism, and people managing mental health conditions, physical disabilities, or visual and hearing impairments. Whatever someone's situation, we aim to build support around them as a person rather than simply around their needs on paper.
We are proud to hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the consistent effort our team puts in every day. Being rated Good matters to us not as a badge to display, but because it tells the people we support and their families that we are doing things properly and that they can trust us.
Care at home works best when there is genuine continuity and familiarity. We try hard to ensure that the people we support see the same familiar faces regularly, because trust builds over time and good care depends on that trust. We listen carefully, we communicate openly with families, and we are always willing to adjust how we work when someone's circumstances change.
We understand that inviting a care worker into your home, or arranging care for someone you love, is a significant step. We do not take that lightly. From the first conversation, we aim to make the process straightforward and reassuring, taking time to understand what matters most to the individual before anything else is agreed.
If you would like to find out more about how we can help you or a family member, we would be very happy to have a chat. We are based in Ipswich and welcome enquiries from across Suffolk.

More about the care at Rula Homecare Limited
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Half an hour, twice a day, is often the difference between staying at home and giving it up. Rula Homecare is registered for older person care, covering help with washing, dressing, medication prompts and company. Because the service is bought by the hour, the detail of the rota decides whether it works. Ask how long each visit is, how many carers would cover a month, and how closely times are kept. Ask what is available in the evenings or overnight, and what happens when a carer finds the door locked. Hourly rates across the East usually run from £28 to £33, so ask how travel and bank holidays are billed.
Dementia
Repetition is not the problem in dementia care, impatience is, and a carer who knows somebody well finds the day much easier. Rula Homecare includes dementia care in its registration alongside support for older adults. Home remains the best place for many people with dementia, provided the help is consistent and the gaps between visits stay manageable. Ask how many carers would be involved and whether the same faces arrive at the same times. Ask what staff are instructed to do about refused medication, distress or walking out. Ask too how families are told when visits are no longer enough.
Learning Disability / Autism
Routine and predictability are not optional extras for many autistic adults. Learning disability and autism are covered by the registration at Rula Homecare. This support is usually commissioned by the council, with annual reviews and sometimes a care and treatment review. Ask how carers are matched to communication and sensory needs, and how independence is built into the week.
Mental Health
Being treated as a competent adult is itself part of good mental health support. Mental health conditions fall within the registration held by Rula Homecare. Ask what training carers have had, how they recognise a deterioration, and who they contact in a crisis. Ask also whether visits can be increased during a difficult spell.
Physical Disability
Lifting somebody without the right equipment risks two injuries rather than one. Physical disability is named in what Rula Homecare is registered to provide. Council occupational therapy can assess for hoists, rails or a wet room, and that often matters more than extra hours. Ask whether carers are trained on the equipment in the house and how two carer visits are arranged.
Visual / Hearing Impairment
Clear speech, good light and a quiet room do more for sensory loss than most equipment. Visual and hearing impairment are both named in the registration at Rula Homecare. Carers need habits as much as training, including saying who they are and checking that aids are working. Ask how staff are briefed on sight and hearing loss and who arranges audiology or optician appointments.
Younger Adults
Fitting care around a job is harder than fitting it around a retirement, and it is what younger clients usually need. Younger adults are included in what Rula Homecare is registered to support. Reliable early and late calls often matter more than long visits in the middle of the day. Ask how flexible the rota is and whether support can be arranged away from the house.
