We support people living with dementia, and what we have found helps most is not complicated: the same familiar person, arriving at a time that is expected, with no sense of being rushed. We work with people living with mental health conditions, where a relationship built steadily over time and staff who notice early changes make the real difference, and with people who have physical disabilities, helping with personal care and mobility in a way that leaves the person directing how things are done. We also support younger adults, whose support is planned around work, study, family and independence rather than a standard pattern. We try to send the same small group of workers to each person, because familiarity is what makes the practical side work and the human side bearable.
