About Us

Here at You are my Sunshine Homecare, we provide person centred care and support to people living in Wedmore and the wider Somerset area. Our team comes into people's homes because we believe that staying in familiar surroundings, close to the people and routines that matter, makes a genuine difference to how someone feels and how well they thrive.

We support a wide range of individuals, including older people, younger adults, and those living with dementia, mental health conditions or a physical disability. Every person we work with has a different story, different preferences and different goals, so we take time at the outset to properly understand what matters to each individual before we put any care plan in place. That plan then guides everything we do, and we revisit it regularly to make sure it still reflects what the person needs and wants.

We know that inviting a carer into your home, or arranging care for someone you love, is not a decision people take lightly. Trust has to be earned, and we do not take that for granted. We aim to be straightforward, consistent and honest in everything we do, from the very first conversation right through to the ongoing day to day support we provide.

Our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as good overall, which we are proud of, though we are always looking at where we can do better. Feedback from the people we support and their families is something we genuinely welcome and act on.

If you are thinking about home care for yourself or for a family member and would like to talk things through, please do get in touch. We are always happy to have an informal conversation and help you work out what kind of support might be the right fit.

More about the care at You are my Sunshine Homecare Ltd

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Most older people asking for help at home want the least possible: a hand in the shower, support with buttons and zips, a reminder about tablets, and someone who stays long enough to ask how they are. You are my Sunshine Homecare is registered for older person care in and around Wedmore, which covers exactly that practical and sociable support. Rates in the South West typically fall between £28 and £33 an hour, so two short calls a day costs very differently from four. It is worth asking how many carers will appear on the rota, and whether a set arrival time can be agreed rather than a loose window. Ask as well what happens overnight, since most home care stops in the evening. Check finally how a change in need gets noticed and acted upon.

Dementia

Keeping somebody with dementia in their own home relies on sameness: the same faces arriving at the same hours, in rooms whose layout has not shifted. Carers who know a person's history can read the early signs of distress and head it off instead of waiting for a crisis. You are my Sunshine Homecare is registered for dementia care, so it is fair to ask how much dementia training carers have completed and how information passes between them. Ask what the service advises when someone begins wandering outside or leaving the gas on, and how the package would be reassessed. Ask too whether support can continue as the condition progresses, and at what point it could not.

Mental Health

Routine and predictability carry real weight for an adult living with a mental health condition, and a dependable visit can steady a whole week. Being consulted about one's own care matters every bit as much as the tasks themselves. You are my Sunshine Homecare is registered to support people with mental health needs, so ask about carer experience, how risk is reviewed, and who responds when things deteriorate suddenly.

Physical Disability

Whether a person with a physical disability can manage at home often comes down to the bathroom, the bed and the front step. Support should enable rather than replace, steadying and assisting where someone cannot manage alone and leaving the rest to them. You are my Sunshine Homecare is registered for physical disability, so ask how carers are trained on hoists and transfers, and who requests an occupational therapy visit.

Younger Adults

For an adult under 65, a call that arrives at nine in the morning and nine at night is little use if they are at work or college. You are my Sunshine Homecare is registered for younger adults, which means visit times and goals should be negotiated rather than imposed. Ask how early and how late calls can run, and whether support covers getting to activities outside the house.
