About Boocare
Boocare provides care and support in people's own homes in Somerton and across Somerset. We work with older people, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions and younger adults. Working across a largely rural county shapes how we do this. Distances are real and villages are scattered, so a carer running late is half an hour late rather than five minutes. We plan rounds geographically and keep them stable, which has the useful effect that people see the same few faces rather than whoever the rota threw up. Familiarity is the most valuable thing we have and it is very easily wasted. The work covers personal care, medication, meals, moving safely about the house, household jobs, shopping and appointments, through to sitting with somebody so that a family carer can leave the house without worrying. For some of the people we support it looks quite different, with somebody alongside them at a group, at college or on a journey they would not manage alone. Because we are often the only people through the door in a week, noticing is genuinely part of the job, and we pass concerns on promptly with the agreement of the person we visit. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking the households we visit what needs to change.
