About Us
PICAS provides care and support in people's own homes in Ilford and across the London borough of Redbridge. We work with older people, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and younger adults.
Autism is central to a good deal of what we do, and it shapes how we work rather than sitting alongside it. Knowing what is coming is often more important to an autistic person than anything else we could offer, so we hold to arrangements even when a rota would rather we did not, we give proper notice before anything changes, and we keep the same small team around each person instead of rotating staff through.
We also take the word support seriously and try not to let it slide into doing things for people. The first conversation is about somebody's life rather than their difficulties: what a good week looks like, what stands in the way, and what they would much rather manage themselves.
In practice that means personal care, medication, meals and household help for some, and for others somebody alongside them at college, at work, on the bus or through the early weeks of living independently. We resource both properly.
The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection, and we keep asking the people we support whether we are doing what we said.
