About Us

UBU in Harrogate provides support to people living in their own homes across the town and the surrounding area. We work with older adults, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities, people with loss of sight or hearing, and people managing mental health conditions.

Our work is about enabling rather than caring in the traditional sense. The aim is somebody running their own home, managing their own money as far as they can, getting to work or college, keeping appointments and seeing the people they choose. We do the parts that genuinely need doing for a person and leave the rest alone, even when doing it ourselves would be faster.

We match staff to people with care and keep those teams small and consistent, because the relationship is where the value lies. A support worker who understands somebody can tell when something is wrong long before it becomes a crisis.

Where somebody has sensory loss we adapt how we approach and communicate, since that determines whether a person is genuinely included in decisions.
