About Equal Partnerships
Equal Partnerships supports adults with a learning disability and autistic adults living in their own homes in Wallsend and across North Tyneside. The name says what we are for. Support that is decided about somebody rather than with them tends to fail, and it takes away the very independence it claims to protect. So people we support are involved in their own planning as a matter of course, in a form they can actually use, and plans change when somebody changes their mind. That is not a concession; it is how it should work. Communication is where most of our effort goes. We learn how each person tells us what they want, whether that is through speech, signing, objects, pictures or the things they do, and we make sure everybody on the team can understand it fluently. We also take environment seriously. Where somebody finds noise, crowds, light or unpredictability hard, we change what we can rather than expecting them to cope, and we prepare properly for changes instead of springing them on people. Our aim is an ordinary adult life: a home of your own, your own front door, work or study if you want it, friendships, family, and the freedom to take the sorts of risks everybody else takes. The Care Quality Commission rated us Outstanding at our most recent inspection. That belongs to the team and to the people we support.
