About Us

We are the Norfolk domiciliary care agency run by the Royal Mencap Society, based in Thetford and supporting people in their own homes across the county. We work with adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, older people and younger adults.

Our work is usually less about personal care tasks and more about making an ordinary life workable. Running a household. Cooking, shopping and managing money. Getting to college, work or activities. Keeping up with family and friends. Handling the appointments and paperwork that pile up. For a lot of the people we support, having somebody reliable who turns up and who knows them is what holds the week together.

Support is planned around what each person wants to be able to do rather than around risk alone. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look for the parts they can take on, because independence slips away quietly unless it is actively protected.

We learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them rather than the reverse.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather be upfront about that.
