The Home Team is a home care provider based in Norwich, working across Norfolk. We support older people and younger adults in their own homes, and we do a great deal of work with people living with dementia. Our name reflects how we try to operate. The person we visit is at the centre, and around them there is usually a family, a general practitioner, sometimes a district nurse or a social worker, and us. We see our role as part of that, not separate from it. In practice our visits cover help with washing and dressing, medication, meals, and the ordinary tasks that quietly become difficult. The same carer, at the same time, who knows how a person takes their tea and what they like to talk about, can hold a day together in a way that a stranger cannot. So we plan rotas with that as a priority rather than an afterthought. We spend time on the first assessment, because the useful details rarely appear on a referral form, and we ask families what they know. Our carers are trained for the conditions they will meet and senior staff are contactable when something needs a proper decision.
