About Building Independence Team
We are the Building Independence Team, working with people in their own homes across Manchester. We support older people, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with a physical disability, people with visual or hearing impairment and younger adults. The name says what we are for. Our job is to help people do more for themselves rather than to take things over, and that shapes everything about how we work. We ask what somebody wants to be able to manage, we build the support around that, and we keep checking whether we are doing more than is wanted, because independence slips away quietly if nobody is watching for it. In practice that covers cooking, shopping, managing money, using transport, getting to college, work or activities, and the practical business of running a household. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look hard for the parts they can take on. We learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them. Where sight, hearing or mobility is affected, we sort out the practical side properly rather than leaving people to cope. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to talk things through.
