We are a home care agency in Lewisham, visiting people in their own homes across the borough and the nearby parts of south east London. Most of the people we support are older adults, and a good number are living with dementia. We also visit people with a physical disability, and younger adults. What people come to us for is practical. Help getting up, washed and dressed. Medicines prompted or given. A hot meal. Help to move about the house safely, sometimes with equipment. Shopping and laundry. Somebody noticing quietly whether things are getting worse. Where dementia is involved we take our lead from the household, because the family already knows which words work, which hour of the day is hard, and what sets things off. We would far rather be told at the start than work it out slowly by getting it wrong. Reliability is the whole job. Arriving when we said we would, sending workers who have been to the house before, and ringing the family when something is not right rather than leaving a note. None of it is clever, and all of it is the difference between help that helps and help that adds to the worry. We have not yet had a full inspection by the Care Quality Commission, so there is no overall rating to show you. We would rather say so plainly. Ring us and judge us on the visit.
