About Sowa

Sowa provides care and support in people's own homes across Huddersfield and the wider Kirklees area. We work with a broad range of adults, and the point of the work is always the same: enough support, arranged the way the person wants it, to make living at home realistic. We support people living with dementia, keeping visits consistent and familiar and working with the routine that already exists in the house. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, where the emphasis is on independence and on communication that suits the individual, and adults with mental health needs, where turning up reliably and without judgement matters more than anything else we do. For people with a physical disability we help with safe moving and managing at home, and where somebody has sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate and always say what we are doing. We also support people living with eating disorders, and people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or drug dependency. That work asks for consistency, honesty and no moralising, and we do it alongside the health professionals involved rather than on our own. Our staff are trained for the people they actually visit, and we would rather turn a referral down than take on something we cannot do safely.
