About Helping Hands

Helping Hands Widnes supports people in their own homes in Widnes and the surrounding area. We work with older people and with younger adults, and our experience covers dementia, mental health needs, physical disabilities, and sight and hearing loss. We assess at home, with whoever the person wants present, and the conversation is as much about what somebody intends to keep doing for themselves as about what they need from us. The plan is agreed rather than issued and it changes when circumstances do. Support may be a single short call each day, visits at several points for personal care, medication, meals and company, or longer stretches for somebody who should not be alone. Reliability is what families judge us on, and rightly. Arriving when we said. Staying the time agreed. Sending carers who already know the person. Ringing before anybody has to ring us. We keep our rounds local so that those are promises we can actually keep. Where somebody is living with dementia we pay close attention to timing and familiar faces. Where there is sensory loss we think about lighting, contrast and hearing aids that have actually been checked. Our carers are trained for the needs they meet and supervised rather than left to manage alone. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
