So we listen first, write it down in plain language, and go back to it honestly rather than leaving it in a folder. Where the work is delicate we take our time. Recovery from an eating disorder or from addiction rarely runs in a straight line, and the useful thing we offer is steadiness and an absence of judgement on the difficult weeks. We work alongside health teams and specialist services instead of duplicating them. A lot of what we do is more everyday: personal care, medication, meals, mobility, household jobs, shopping, appointments and proper company, from carers the household already knows. In a busy part of London we work hard to keep rounds local so that continuity survives the traffic. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission.
