About Us
Carers Trust Tyne and Wear provides care and support to people in their own homes across Gateshead and the surrounding area. We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people who have a learning disability, with autistic people, with people who have mental health needs, with people who have physical disabilities, with people who have sight or hearing loss, with people living with an eating disorder and with people recovering from problems with alcohol or drugs.
Family carers matter a great deal to us. A good deal of our work makes it possible for someone to keep caring for a relative without being worn down by it, which means our support has to be reliable and arranged around the household rather than around our convenience.
A visit may involve personal care, support with medication, preparing meals, help with mobility, household tasks and shopping, company, or support to get out to appointments and to see people. We agree the plan with the person and anyone they want involved, write it down plainly and review it when circumstances change. We keep the same small team around each person wherever we can.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. The better measure is whether the people we support, and those caring for them, feel properly backed up.
